Greencard lottery
Since October 1, 1994 the US Attorney General has allocated 55.000
immigrant visas (green cards) per year to foreigners from countries
that have a statistically low number of immigrants in the US. These
55.000 immigrant visas are allocated through a lottery that is held
once a year in October. All information required on how to enter
the lottery can be found on the website of the Department
of State.
The Greencard lottery is free!
Some organizations offer, for a fee, assistance in applying for
the lottery, and promise higher success rates. The Department of
State warns against these organizations. Participation in the Greencard
Lottery is very simple and does not require any paid help.
