VisaVersa offers early application program

On the evening of January 16, President Bush signed into law a bill allowing the spouses of L-1 international transferee and E treaty trader and treaty investor visa holders an "open market" authorization to work in the US.

This work authorization is not employer or job specific. Also, there is no need for any potential employer to file a visa petition.

For eligible spouses that do not have immediate employment needs, VisaVersa recommends that these persons wait for the USCIS and the State Department to finalize its procedures.

Eligible spouses who have a job offer or who are seeking immediate employment may wish to apply now for an EAD (Employment Authorization Document) and try to get ahead of the 15,000 spouse-related applications that are expected at USCIS service centers. Currently it is taking 3 months for the USCIS to adjudicate an EAD application.
