There are a number of different categories available for Australian citizens or permanent residents to bring family members to Australia.
- Partner Visa
This visa is for people who have a spouse or de facto partner who is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen who can sponsor their application. It includes any children 18, and in some cases up to 25, who are single. There is a separate Prospective Marriage Visa for people who do not qualify as de facto partners but who intend to marry within nine month of joining their partners in Australia.
- Child Visa
This visa allows Australian citizens, permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens to sponsor their single children under the age of 18, and in some cases up to 25, for permanent residence in Australia.
- Parent Visa
This visa is for people who have a child who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen and who is normally resident in Australia.
- Other Family members
This is for aged dependent relatives, last remaining close relatives and carers of Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and eligible New Zealand citizens in Australia.
